Ten Canon Stories I’d love to see

The Star Wars franchise is notorious for releasing one story and then opening up the galaxy to at least twenty more. With every character sewing seeds of a rich backstory, and a multimedia franchise across comics, novels, games and television, it’s hard not to sit and think about what might come next.

So without further delay, and in no particular order, here are Ten Canon Stories I’d love to see, that are not already (to the best of our knowledge) in the works.

1. Dooku: Sith Discovered

One of the greatest Star Wars stories I have devoured over the years was Dooku: Jedi Lost. Cavan Scott turned a character, towards whom I was largely indifferent, into an incredibly complex and sympathetic being.

I found it to be much deeper and more intriguing than the snippets we received from the EU novel Darth Plagueis. Yet, upon finishing it, I couldn’t help but think there was so much more left to the story... and I want it now!

I would love to hear another audiobook exploring the connecting narrative between Dooku leaving the Jedi Order, and when he arrives at that fateful meeting of The Separatists on Geonosis.

2. Guardians of the Whills

How many spin-offs does a movie need? I certainly wonder this myself with all the announced projects from Disney and Lucasfilm surrounding The Mandalorian. If we are getting an Andor series, surely that is enough. Right?

Yeah... probably...

Andor definitely has a unique part of the galaxy and storytelling to explore and hopefully in Season Two we will get to see K2 again. But the real shining stars of Rogue One, for me, were Chirrut and Baze.

Their relationship with each other was so heart-warming and felt really special. And the way Alexander Freed described their tragic end in the Battle of Scarif in the novelization was just beautiful.

The junior novel, Guardians of the Whills, just scratched the surface of the stories I would like to hear about these characters. I don’t even need it to be a television series, or film, or comic book... But give us something! A series of short stories perhaps?

3. Vi Moradi

When I first read Phasma, I liked it. Didn’t love it, but liked it.

But when I read the semi-sequel Black Spire and got to spend more time with Vi Moradi I was blown away. Black Spire is one of the best pieces of sequel content for sure.

So much so, that I went back and listened to the audiobook of Phasma as a refresher and found that there was a lot about it that I didn’t appreciate fully first time around.

I very much hope at some stage that Delilah S. Dawson gets a chance to write another novel, and the extra sprinklings of desire is that it is about the further adventures of Resistance Spy Vi “Starling” Moradi.

4. Crimson Dawn

Anyone who knows my Star Wars obsession even a little knows how much I love Darth Maul. From the moment he appeared in promotional images and videos for The Phantom Menace I was intrigued.

His development over The Clone Wars and Rebels, like the aforementioned Dooku: Jedi Lost, really shaped his character from being somewhat one dimensional, into one ripe with the possibility of truly compelling storytelling.

When he showed up at the end of Solo, I was blown away. Not only did it mean that Maul had been doing a lot since The Clone Wars ended, but it also gave an extra shot of importance to the events of the animated television series.

A Crimson Dawn series would be absolutely phenomenal in my opinion. I don’t even need it to be focused on Maul, they would be remiss not to at least feature him, but there is a lot of storytelling to be told there, especially with Qi’ra making an appearance in Marvel’s War of the Bounty Hunters crossover.

5. Where is Ezra Bridger?

It has been over three years since the purrgil shot off into Unknown Space with Ezra and Thrawn, but my goodness it feels like so much longer. That said, when you consider the amount of time between The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, it really isn’t so bad.

With the tease in The Mandalorian and the announcement of the Ahsoka series, I feel like perhaps this entry doesn’t quite belong on this list because it is likely already in the works.

Nevertheless, I have an image in my mind of Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn scowling across at each other from opposite sides of a campfire, before realising they are in their situation together before teaming up to ward off an evil group of technophobic religious zealots that threaten to take over the known galaxy.

6. Skywalker Academy

The flames danced across Luke Skywalker's face as he gazed upon the destruction his nephew had wrought. Had he failed him so badly that it would come to this. Slowly, he placed a hand upon his faithful astromech and rose to his feet.

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I would really love to see what life at the Skywalker Academy was like between The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

I certainly hope that once the gap after The Empire Strikes Back is bridged, that Marvel will take on the task of showing us exactly what happened to Luke, Leia, Han, and Ben during this time.

Alternatively, an animated television series would be equally as welcome.

7. The Kaleeshi General

One of the first thoughts I had once I finished Dooku: Jedi Lost was how much I would love to see someone take on General Grievous like that.

His character is intimidating and powerful, but what really makes him tick? A glimpse here and there of his backstory through his castle in The Clone Wars episode “Lair of Grievous” and his one-shot as part of Age of Republic just aren’t quite enough for me.

I’m sure there are those out there who feel that if he becomes to humanised then his menace throughout his appearances in The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith will be diminished, but I think with the right hand it could be really interesting. After all, do we fear Darth Vader less after the prequels?

8. Search for the Wayfinder

After watching The Rise of Skywalker I was left with two stories that I wanted explored in more detail. The first was Poe Dameron and his adventures with the Spice Runners of Kajimi (got it, not what I was expecting, but that’s for another blog), and the camaraderie of Lando Calrissian and Luke Skywalker.

Throughout the old Expanded Universe, every now and then Lando and Luke would head off on a mission together and there is something about the dynamic that just really clicked with me.

I definitely would like to see more of this, Han and Lando is great, but Luke and Lando is even better!

9. Cloud-Riders

Who wouldn’t want to see a Star Wars story about misunderstood pirates who are actually fighting for the good of the galaxy?

I love the idea that there were beings out there fighting either in spite of, or without the knowledge that there was a larger Rebellion out there. Indeed, it wasn’t until the events of Rebels that they were united as an Alliance.

So that means there are years and years of characters like Saw Gerrera and Enfys Nest doing whatever it takes to strike back against the Empire.

This is a story that needs to happen. Fast.

10. Mandalorian Civil War

Last, but certainly not least, the Mandalorian Civil War.

There are so many reasons this should be a compelling story. Mandalorians are cool, Boba Fett said his father fought in them, but most importantly of all, it was because of this Civil War that Obi-Wan Kenobi and his master ventured to Mandalore to protect Satine Kryze.

I very much would like to see the story of how Satine and Kenobi fell in love, and nobody could write it better than Claudia Gray.

Just imagine it, a love story for the ages set to the sound of blaster fire and jetpacks. My heart races just typing the words!

Perhaps we will get this as a tie-in to the Kenobi series due out next year.

Final Thoughts:

I am always super excited to see what is coming next in the world of Star Wars. What do you think of the Canon Stories I’d love to see? Do you have any more you are hoping for?

May the Force be with you
